A call for prayer and support of NAMS mission to Myanmar — from Manik Corea

Dear friends and supporters,

God has been opening doors all over the world for NAMS to serve, partner and equip Christians and local churches for the mission of the extending the Kingdom of God through disciple-making and church-planting.

In May 2015, Manik Corea, NAMS Regional Operations for Asia, met Bishop David Nyi Nyi Naing, the Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Mandalay, at a leadership conference in Myanmar. He invited Manik and NAMS Servant General Jon Shuler to visit him in his Diocese, and we went in August 2015.

Out of that visit, and at the request of Bishop David, NAMS has been asked to bring a team to Mandalay Diocese this year to help cast a vision and train key clergy and lay leaders of his diocese for disciple-making and church-planting among the many people groups that are span the length and breadth of his diocese. This diocese is a large one that shares her eastern borders with China and her western border with India, and includes the Shan, Kachin and Chin people groups as well as the majority Burman people. Most of these are Buddhist or animists.

Therefore, NAMS will be sending a team of 6 people from 3 of our NAMS bases in Asia to train about 30 of their leaders the first week of August 2016 (Wednesday 3rd – Sunday 7th). We expect to run the training over a 2-day period where we will share biblical principles for disciple-making that leads to reproducing communities of faith. We are also praying about the potential of a support base for work in Mandalay if God should open the door.

We are therefore calling for prayer for the week we will be there. If you would like to be one of the intercessors for this mission, please send me an e-mail to the address at the end of this report.

NAMS is also having to step out in faith towards this mission. Consider whether you are God’s answer to our prayer for the estimated US$4000 we need to cover the tickets, accommodation, travel and food during our time there. The easiest way to give would be to go to the NAMS website: www.namsnetwork.com and click on the ‘donate’ button on the front page. (Specify in the comment section of the donation page that your contribution is for ‘NAMS Mandalay Mission 2016’).

For now, please will you pray for:

1. The team that NAMS is sending, the Rev. Manik Corea and Isaac Lasky (All Nations Bangkok, NAMS South-East Asia), Pastors Tek and Anosh (Nepal, NAMS Himalayan and Tibetan peoples) and Pastor Cheng and his co-worker Yom (from Yangon, NAMS Myanmar). That God may prepare us for our time there, that we may be a blessing to the leaders in our sharing and presence, and that we and our families back home, may be protected as we travel there and back.

2. Provision to cover the full cost of this mission trip.

3. Bishop David and the Diocese of Mandalay, that God may bless and strengthen their desire to reach out to and plant churches among many unreached people groups and parts of their Diocese. Bishop David is also the Director of Mission for the entire Province of the Anglican Church of Myanmar. Pray that we may be able to work with him in other parts of Myanmar too.

More reports and details will follow. Do let us know if you want to receive them – write to: manikagcorea@yahoo.co.uk
